On the afternoon of Saturday, August 30, Ma On Shan Lee On Estate’s Roman Square was bathed in warm sunlight, filled with the laughter of children and the friendly chatter of elderly residents. Vickong Dental brought its "Caring for the Community, Walking Together Toward Health" charity initiative to the grassroots with its third event. The red booth quickly drew a crowd of neighbors—some holding flyers and reading carefully, others standing on tiptoe, eagerly awaiting consultation—all immersed in the warmth of community life.

Dental Services: Small Gifts, Big Care, Easing Everyday Worries

The smiles of the dental care team were even warmer than the sunlight. Though the oral care gift packs they handed out were light, each item—toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss—was practical. Children happily clutched their new toothbrushes and skipped away, while elderly residents leaned closer to the dentists, sharing concerns like, "My dentures keep trapping food," or "My gums are swollen, and I’m afraid to eat." The dentists listened attentively, bending down to demonstrate the "Bass brushing technique" with hand gestures and patiently repeating details like "rinsing for 30 seconds after meals." They translated professional knowledge into everyday language, easing long-held worries for many neighbors.

Blood Pressure Monitoring: A Few Minutes of Care, Warming Hearts

At the nearby blood pressure monitoring booth, elderly residents lined up neatly, gently rolling up their sleeves. The staff adjusted the equipment while chatting warmly: "Grandma, have you been eating too much salt lately?" or "Uncle, try taking a walk in the park in the morning." After the readings appeared, they leaned in to explain softly: "This number needs attention—try drinking less broth with solids." One grandmother held a staff member’s hand and smiled after her check-up: "You’re even more attentive than my own son. Thank you!"

Walking Together: Sustaining Warm Services, Building a Healthy Community

This event was supported by the Home Affairs Department, the Sha Tin Care Team, and other organizations, each contribution making the services more grounded and responsive. The Vickong Dental team will continue to visit more housing estates in the future, bringing oral health knowledge and services like blood pressure monitoring right to residents’ doorsteps.
